Description
One of 270 pictures, and just one section of the irregular lake, captured 5/18/12, at the beautiful Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in not-so-beautiful South El Monte, California.
ZOOM worthy.
Sorry, no time for a collage today because of an earlier photo shoot.
Actually, you not only have the lake in this image, but also the added bonus of Towers of Power in the background. These are not the towers I posted yesterday.
Allaismalardik, thankx for stopping by, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.

Nice shot Harry and that tower in the forground looks new and there may not be any powerlines attached???

These towers are huge and dominate this skyline but they kind of blend in too somehow. I still would like to see them put all these lines underground but I guess it is so much more expensive. This lake is a lovely place to visit.

Nice lake Harry, super place to chill and relax.. But I must agree with npauling, why not put the 'bigger' lines underground for sure, its so much more scenic? Less of an eye sore.. Rosy was telling me they can't do that up in Maine because the ground freezes hard for months, I can totally understand that.. Also in many other States as well but California? Beautiful place spoilt by the lines.. But lovely to see sun Harry.. Nice! Rob

I also wish the lines were underground, but it would be expensive to retrofit now. But, especially in the Northwest, the land of tall trees and occasional big windstorms, whoever thought it was a good idea to put lines in the air between them? A recipe for disaster, and constant efforts to "fix" the outages...end of my rant. Lovely shot, Harry; I lived in El Monte once for a short while in my early adulthood, it was a bit on the rural side at that point. I'm sure it's different now! You do get around, don't you?

it's great to read some of the comments about the towers & lines, esp Denise, since she knows many of the places you've photographed. I have to take out a map one of these days, and start placing the many places you visit. But ok---certainly no one would 'want' those towers & lines there, running through a serene lake with such nice reflections & trees, etc. But as a photographer, you're showing us reality, and that's one thing you've done consistently throughout your gallery: showing us what's really there, in all its beauty, poetry, ugliness, strangeness and, occasionally, other-worldliness. So while I'd like to see the lines go underground too, from the photographic perspective you're being a journalist and showing what's there. Actually, if more shots like this were around (with your eye) maybe more people would get these things moved...In any case, it's a soft dreamy capture of the lake; the greenery around it is serene; you have very nice 'misty' light in the background; and gentle sweet reflections. Then, ka-boom: The towers intrude like alien creatures; and it really is true to urban life. One tries hard to make them fit visually, but they just don't: They intrude. Odd too, because we see no other structures around except for the boats, whose hues are a wonderful addition to all this green. A very honest shot, and somehow it's all serene---even with those monsters right off the shore. The facts of life. Fine work.
