Description

The Roman Colosseum or Coliseum, originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, was commisioned in AD 72 by Emperor Vespasian. It was completed by his son, Titus, in 80. Obviously the original errrrrrr 'playing surface' would have covered up these rooms. I bet there are a few old ghosts rattling around down there somewhere! FILM, from the vault.

For sure it is amazing! It always makes me think that if they brought this back today it would be wildly popular everywhere.

I can still hear the pain and suffering of those who have lost their lives in the name of entertainment!

I'll bet some Ghosts are seeking a lion to claim some missing bone, lost as they errrr "played"(Sorry, I can't hold it). Great picture! This jewel of the story is fantastic. I read somewhere that it took about 1000 sailors to place a canvas tent for a roof. Sailors were used because only they were able to maneuver properly with the canvas.

Great POV. The building is doubly remarkable in that almost all entrance/exit patterns in existing arenas are based upon this building.

Nicely detailed shot of what must be one of the most wonderful buildings from antiquity. Its sheer size really does take ones breath away, never mind thinking about what they watched there all those years ago.

I have seen thousands of photos of the Roman Coliseum but this is the best shot of the inside that I have seen. Excellent shot!
