Description
This photo was lit, photographed, and retouched by me. This is of a model that I worked with a few months ago. She was looking for a Peter Hurley styled type of look that was really simple, clean, and custom to profile.
I liked it, and added it to my port. APPARENTLY I am a bad photographer in others eyes, because I made exactly that. A simple plain looking photo.
And that upset me. Especially coming from nay-sayers that have yet to create a photo as difficult as this one.
Of course, I understand that it looks plain, that is the intention. But there are also none of my artistic footprints on it to say that I did it, but I actually did.
It looks simple to do, but it is not. This was a 4 light setup. 1 light diffused with a diffusion umbrella on both sides of the model's face, 1 light high above to make a catchlight for the hair, and 1 light to nuke the background white.
So, I'm told I suck when I do my own style, but then I also suck when I do a different style. I can't win.
Well, this is what the client wanted, she loved the photos, I guess that's all that matters.

The image is exactly what it needs to be, you have allowed the subject to speak for herself. Excellent.
