Description
Captured 5/18/12, at the beautiful Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in not-so-beautiful South El Monte, California.
Astonishingly ZOOM worthy.
Yes, an island, loaded with foliage, sitting right out in the middle of one of the sections of the lake.
I took tons/tonnes of photos of the island as I encircled it, using various POVs, many of the shots so similar that you can barely tell the difference. A classic case of overkill.
There is no access to the island except by boat.
Cheerio, thankx for hopping aboard, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.

A sanctuary for the birds, they do need a place where they can feel safe. There's one like this at the arboretum here, but when the bay froze a couple of winters back people were ice skating to the island and tramping around on it. It may be my imagination, but it feels like there are fewer interesting birds here since then! Beautiful capture of this little oasis, Harry!

How nice it would be to have a small house on such an island. Nice shot of this beautiful place.

Nice to see a place where wildlife can 'try' and hide.. Unfortunately, where ever humans (I use that name rather than 'people') go, the wildlife is killed or scared away.. And, as humans are now swarming everywhere with no intention of some kind of birth control, wildlife won't be here much longer.. So get photos mate.. Good shot.. Rob

well this isn't a structure, but it's a continuation of your Legg Lake series, and a total contrast to the last. Not because the lake looks so different---it doesn't---but because we're totally out of range of the towers and the boats here. I realize that with a swivel of your feet we could be looking at them again---but that's the magic of photography. It's a brighter shot, the green is filled with rich yellows. The proportions are how I like them in water shots---appr 2/3 water (a little less) and 1/3 land. And the reflections are full & gentle, with clouds dappling the water in the foreground. (Well I assume those are cloud reflections. Perhaps they're plants underwater, but they look like cloud reflections.) A serene and rich capture of a small wonder. And of course it shows that a true photographer finds these wonders wherever life gives them. Why do I say that? Well one, to re-emphasize your way with the camera, finding the poem wherever you go. But two, because nature photographers sometimes think the only wonders are in the Yosemites, Zions and Grand Tetons of the world (etc). But an island in a lake is a little chunk of heaven to the right eye. Beautiful.
