Description

The Skidder I posted previously brings the logs to this area for cutting. The long arm and claw is used to pick up and move the logs; the yellow vertical machine houses a 6'saw arm, in this image is a cut log on top of another log in the process of being cut; the very long tree size log on the diagonal is ready to be lifted to the cutter; just barely seen past the saw is the log truck with an open bed and tall side poles where the cut logs are loaded to take to the sawmill (which in this case is maybe 1 1/2 miles away). Generally a 3 person operation - one cutting trees with a chainsaw, one driving the Skidder, one on the log sawer/mover - there were many days when my logger (63 yrs old, logging since he was a teenager) worked alone doing all the tasks in turn due to not being able to get any help. No one wants to do this very hard work even for good pay. Dangerous occupation for sure too.

Awesome shot of the awesome logging equipment and environs, Deb. No way do I want to be around that beast when they're cutting and moving the logs.
