Description

Hi there.. This ones for me, and anyone who loved the Harrier.. Aircraft are one of the few things that cause me to have some kind of emotional reaction. The Harrier more so that others.. I feel Anger, I feel lose, Worry, fear, sadness.. And pride.. Harrier, or Kestrel, or P1127 if you want to go back even further, was a design built around an engine.. The RAF wasn't really interested, the same with Navy.. But they built it anyway.. Around the radical Pegasus engine.. Everything else came afterwards.. When they landed a Kestrel in Kings Cross station in London, the ball was set rolling.. I knew the Harrier from the GR1, I sat in one of the first I was 12 years old.. How? The Pilots drank at my Father's Pub.. I almost lived among them, and on that base..(RAF Wittering).. I could go on, I could preach, I could even rant.. But whats the point.. At the moment we (The British) are Governed by pocket filling, idiots, that have obliterated the Military Forces here..(No joke!) They are led by the E.U. (THE most corrupt people and thing that exists), we have no Aircraft Carriers, no Aircraft to go on them either.. We need them now! Sorry started to Rant! This is a SHAR, Sea Harrier.. Maybe the finest Fighter the Fleet Air Arm ever had.. Ask any Argentinian Air Force Pilot.. Taken at RAF Cottesmore.. (AGAIN now shut!) Every thing is closed near me.. The skies are deathly quiet... So bloody quiet... For as long as I can remember RAF planes filled them.. Now nothing..:-( Rob

Great shot, cool angle, great plane. The Sea Harrier proved that a fighter doesn't need to be supersonic-capable into order to kick butt. I understand your pain, we went through it here in the 70's & 80's. CFB Chatham is/was about 90 minutes drive from here, and I can recall the occasional overflight by Voodoos. CFB Summerside's Trackers and Greenwood's Argus maritime patrol planes were all regular visitors overhead. Chatham is now a business park, Summerside now a civilian airport... at least we still get the occasional Aurora from Greenwood!

We had them at Yeovilton near us in Somerset and all we see now are helicopters. I share your enthusiasm for these iconic aircraft.

A fine detail shot of an excellent plane. As for elected government, at least democracies are better than anything else that's been tried, to paraphrase old Winston.

You have no aircraft carriers? What ever happened to Britannia rules the waves? That is really embarrassing. Even the Chinese have at least one carrier. But I digress. Fine POV in this capture, mate. I thought at first this was an old Douglas F-4 Phantom jet until I read the following text. Lots of ordnance on display. The Harrier was a cool aircraft and really proved its worth down in the Falklands.

As soon as I saw the Sea Harrier I knew a rant was coming. LOL. I can still remember the day I read about the loss of the Harriers to scrap metal in the US, and the loss of the HMS Ark Royal. SEE HERE

People who run governments are fools by design as the people who fund them want puppets to do what they want no matter if what they want is wrong. We acrost the pond in the United States have the same problems. Fools who don't understand the only reason we can have any freedom is because of those who defend a nation and the world from evil.

Andrew (blinkings), I clicked the link mate.. the tosser NEVER replied to a SINGLE question fully, the last Harrier to fly (and THEY are aircraft, correct me here?) to fly of carrier was just before it was decommissioned.. Aircraft flew off them in the first, second and during the no fly zone over Iraq.. And I'm sure many other times as well.. But what annoys me most is he never replied to a single question.. A sign of a man who knows they f****d up BAD! Rob

I too love the Harrier and remember having a metal model of one of these as a kid. As pointed out above, this aircraft proved that it doesn't have to be sleek to be affective. Politicians need to fund their lavish lifestyle and their second homes from somewhere, unfortunatly it's seems to be at the publics expense. I still mourn the decommissioning of the Ark Royal. Updated due to watching the clip Andrew posted. I agree Rob and everyone else click on that link just to see how to evade questions :(

Nice close up shot Rob... looks cool. For me, the SHAR was the horniest looking one of the Harrier family...Sharkey Ward's book is one of my fav military reads!

A great shot of an awesome plane - I love the Harrier - I think the Marines still fly them (and my TNA Girls, too LOL). It's a real shame, mate - hate to see that happening... Seems to be an epidemic of stupidity in high places - here, too! When will they wake up and learn from history?

Great ship that, alas, has joined the ranks of the B1 Bomber, F14 Tomcat, and many, many others.

Great capture of this aircraft Rob and a great write up - rant and all. We have had base closures here in the US also, in the Phoenix area Williams AFB was closed in the early 90's. Williams was used for UPT. Luke AFB is loosing F-16s to Holloman, but we are are supposed to get the F-35, at least we are one of the final three bases considered. I hope we get them - I like the sound they are making!
