Oh Wow! This sails and is volcanic. The bird is a gorgeous and almost cuddly character but assumes the mighty spirit. This is very cool.

oftentimes, images of the eagle & the flag are made with bold, clean-cut shapes & hues: a kind of hardness that I think viewers expect with patriotic imagery. But your series, over the last few uploads (incl the one after this), are awash in a sensual softness & flow---the same flow of hue & motion & power which you use for non-patriotic imagery. Which means you don't see a reason to cut those qualities out when honoring those who have sacrificed for country & freedom. You probably know that "patriot" comes from the same root as "pater," father, or more generally, parent. It could be Matriot as well (if there were such a word): The sense of embracing those who nurture us, or sacrifice for us. It should ooze with love & passion, not just be a hard image of a fierce bird and a flag. In your next upload you speak of all---the soldier, the mother, the children, etc, and bring them into the whole picture (as your life has taught you). In my service, I spoke with civilians of war from various countries, stories I will share later on. But I heard so much bravery from people who, with no training, went through so much to preserve their towns, their families, their ways of life. And who suffered as their children went off to war. So many are effected, as you say, so your paintings are about all, and that makes them universal. This one seems to come out of a deep vortex of energy (bottom, right), and undulate its way into the sky. The stroke-work is highly painterly, has an almost van Gogh quality, but also has a very broad sweeping quality (not typical of van Gogh, who turned to shorter & shorter strokes as he went on). Georgia O'Keeffe comes to mind too: The whole piece feels like a gigantic mythic flower to me, in the tradition of painters like O'Keeffe; where a flower is a symbol for the whole universe. And out of it comes the mother nation, and the huge protective span of the eagle. And your paintwork beneath the eagle's claws is wonderful, swirling down in typical 'carol' fashion; as does the flag above, which, in this series, becomes like the coats of your great animal-paintings. An undulant beautiful piece, honoring those who've sacrificed, with an enormous heart. And true to the meaning of "patriot"---ie, a parent, a protector. Beautiful work Carol. (I'm only doing 1 or 2 comments per gallery for a while, while I get my hands back. So I'm just doing this image for now, as this is a long comment. But I've seen the rest of the series and I'm incorporating them into my thoughts here. But I'll get to them later on...I'm coming back slowly. This was a wonderful series, timed so well with Memorial Day...)

Anahata really nailed what is so powerful about this image- your softer more organic flowing style brings a deep emotional value to this piece that is stunning! Hugs!
