Description

Captured 6/1/12, early morning, in close proximity to a flood channel in beautiful Long Beach, California. Well worth a ZOOM. Rising majestically above the jungle we have still another variety of tower from the ones previously shown. Even though it doesn't look like it, this is a color shot and not a monochrome. It was a very overcast morning, resulting in a lack of color. Anyway, it makes for a cool silhouette. Shalom, thankx for the peek, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.

Ooh, that's a big 'un Harry! I haven't seen one quite so wide, at least not for many decades...I don't think anything that big would fit between the trees up here! Wonderful capture, despite the overcast sky!

This tower really does stand out against the overcast sky. It is a bit different from the usual towers. Great shot.

Parallel lines and lots of angles make for a very eye-catching image Harry. Cool.

That is a sort I've not seen before, and I like the contrast with the natural forms.

There's a lot of current flowing through those wires. Looks like 4 lines each carrying three-phase power, thus 12 power lines. I'm guessing at a peak current level of about 2 kA through each line and likely a transmission voltage of 240 kV, would yield hundreds of MW (megawatts) of power being supplied to users.

I've never seen anything like it in the Midwest: It's formidable. And esp for such thin metal elements. Your shot is poetry, it has a big poetic stature: It's oddly forboding yet oddly poetic. Almost graceful in its terrifying way. I can tell it's not monochrome, the green below is quite green: But this kind of light makes for very mysterious shots, and there are film directors who seek out light like this precisely for the mystery it conveys, and it's just right that you let it stand. It's a wonderful mysterious capture, and the 'grounding' of those plants, with their own spindly feelers, is perfect for all the thin lines above. Somehow (and I don't know how), this picture conveys the nature of the power itself---those lines convey razor sharp power to me. Terrific job Harry. It's actually scary. From some of your comments, I guess this thing really carries megawattage. (I tried shooting an area like this near downtown chicago, and was stopped by a plain-clothed policeman who said that these areas are targets for terrorists and therefore I should expect to be stopped if I photographed them. He showed me his badge & ID, said he was with counter-terrorism---that's sobering on a photo shoot!---I offered my ID, and my camera to view, whatever...he said it was ok, he could see I was ok. But he said I would often be stopped if I photographed such places. I think it was because it was a whole 'park' of transmitters, closely coagulated. That area evidently powered a huge chunk of the city. Maybe if I'd been in a more open area like this, I would've been left alone...But thought you'd find that interesting. As I walked home, though, I took lots of shots of puppies, babies and flowers---for real---in case I was being surveilled. I was actually happy to know they were so vigilant, and I told the officer so. He asked me: "Do you actually LIKE these things? What do you find 'attractive' about them?" I said: "God, the lines, the light playing off of them, their otherworldly feeling, the mystery that such 'creatures' sit amidst a huge city..." Your pictures of these structures, Harry, capture all those qualities...)

anahata.c/Mark: Apparently your area abounds in paranoia.
