Description

this is the first week of painting what i see outdoors without use of photos. it like drawing from life. Forgot what they call it but i been thinking of doing it but never had time. So i thought I could do some in Mexico. I did about six of them and give two away. One was the sunset painting and the other one was on the back of the sunset. it was an attempt's of painting the side walk with the palms trees but all I had painted was the sidewalk which too the page. lol It came out looking abstract which was not too bad looking but it was not what i wanted. It harder to paint like this as I just use the paint to draw with. No drawing then painting. just jump right in and paint. I am back in Cajun land oh look at yesterday upload of the photos i took of the door as i was painting it. i did not use the photos as a referred but just what i see with my eyes. i still learning about this way of painting and i like it too. all thought I gee where paint in the studio needs to be done too. painted on thick paper made to be painted on with acrylic paint

Super result, Jocko! We call this sort of work 'observed work'. I used to explain this to my pupils "I look and then I draw/paint my look". Imaginative work is "I think and then draw/paint my think".

A wonderful painting of the doors, Jock! I believe the technique of painting directly from life - with no drawings or other refrences is called 'plein-air' painting. I've made a few sad attempts at painting, but never had the courage to attempt plein-air.. Brilliant work!

superbly done Jock. the first painting I done was using a Polaroid picture of an old bishop palace in Monterrey,MX . from scratch is not easy. I think it never hurts to stretch a picture first before painting.it does not take away from the quality of the finished painting

Great paint Jock! In this kind of painting you must fight with changing light and moving shadows . Great job!
