Description

Venus Transit 2012 I was very worried about the weather, but it turned out to be very clear. Couldn't be happier with the outcome. Hope everyone who missed it due to weather or other reasons can enjoy it through all the pictures that will be posted on 'Rosity. Venus transits happen when that planet comes directly between Earth and the Sun. These events happen in pairs, once every (big number) or so years. The next transit occurs in 2117 or thereabouts, which means the last one (prior to our 2004 sister transit) occurred over 100 years ago. Lots of information is available on the web, so I won't drone on here... But NASA has a live feed going on right now covering the transit. It'll be going on until Sundown tonight. Venus itself is the big blob in the upper right corner, and the other little fuzzy blobs are various sunspots. We're entering an active period in the sun's 11-year cycle, so sunspots ought to be plentiful for several years. PS - Please don't look directly at the sun -- it takes special filters to protect your eyes and your camera.

Very clear shot and it will not happen again for a hundred years. I think this is the best shot yet. Congradulations!

Looks fantastic. Made a few shots myself from the southern part of Norway. Had a morning without a cloud, so I had a frontseat view.

I got up before dawn to try and photograph or view but the cloud refused to break - in the East. To the West was beautiful clear blue sky. Oh well, only another 93 years to wait! This new comet coming in 2013 looks promising though...

This is a spectacular image! Thank you for sharing this with us. To be honest, I'm so out of the swing of things lately, that I had no idea... fascinating reality! What a superb capture.....
