Description
A pair of Tupelov Tu-22M3 "Backfire" medium range bombers patrol the coastal waters in the dawn light. In comparison to American or French designs, most Russian aircraft designs look decidedly quirky...in my mind they bear some heritage with the cupolas of Russian Orthodox churches...still, they are intriguing and defintely "bearish". They always seem to have the flavor of brute practical strength...no frills, comrade.

Great idea and composition.

Another excellent piece of aviation art Bill, would be an excellent Tom Clancy book cover, can just see Jack Ryan on the deck of that ship :-) I've often wondered how we came up with the tag 'Backfire' for these, then again I wonder how we come up with many of the strange names attributed to Soviet aircraft......

Great to see rather "rare" aircrafts in a render. Guess sketchup has a lot of great models still to explore.

Talk about great minds Bill. I've just finished something a bit like this except it's Royal Navy. I'm struggling with the ship wake in postwork though. Any tutorials you can direct me to. Great image mate and another aircraft i'll have to add to my collection.

Reminds me of the TSR2 or the F-111. Nice work.

flying bananas... good composition. the ship is a good contrapoint to get a feeling for depth and relation.

Nice job and render.

Interesting early morning, maybe afternoon, atmosphere... or is that just contemporary Eastern-Bloc smog in the background??? Wonderful render.
