Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

Wow ... you had a great view from up there! I wish we'd had more time. (How often do we say that?) But really ... I wasn't willing to hike up there two days in a row, and there's no point in hanging around in the dark! :P

Thanks for posting this, Bill. I see Tara used a telephoto while you went for a wide angle to get the whole into one photo. This really gives a good view of a single platform. The entrance to the underground ammo storage looks interesting. Were the doors shut, or could you go in and take some photos? If so, could you post one? What surprises me is the wastefulness. First building this complex, then abandoning it. The guns could have been replaced by even bigger, more long range guns. And could be used for missile defences today. But, it reminds me of the "Gig guns at the Golden Gate" (book by Brian Chin) wherein the 16 inch battleship guns in the forts surrounding the Golden Gate to protect San Francisco Bay were cut up and sold for scrap after WW II as it was "too expensive" to remove and store them. A gun like that takes over 1 year to manufacture at great cost. But no thought was given to THAT expense! Thanks for the great overview. Its a great reference for anyone who wants to build a model of a good gun emplacement. Keep up the good work! :-)

What a great place for an open air theatre! A production of Titus Andronicus, maybe.

what a contrast between yours and tara's shot, Bill. In my original comment to tara (lost but replaced) I said that you seemed to be in a WWII fortress. Well I was off by a war, but I still had the right idea. In her shot---which I liked for the shot as much as for the fun of seeing you inside it---we saw the massivity of the walls and how dark it looked inside. Here, it's like a mini Roman Coliseum, with a kind of a round shape, and grasses growing into the stones (as they do in the Roman ruins in Europe). The shot has real sweep. It's really beautiful Bill, I mean it's great to see you two photographing each other---that part of it is lots of fun---but the shots themselves have been fine. And this one feels like you two found an ancient ruin and just ran roughshod through it, with no one to interfere...Wonderful work. And sweeping too.

You both did an amazing job - synchronising with each other in different POV's and created something very special, a love story ... When I visited Germany in 1999, I also made a trip to Goerlitz (Mr. Hitler's bunker) and somehow this reminds me of the 'Wolfsschanze FHQ'! BB

Wow! There nothing like taking a picture of someone taking your picture. Nice shot Bill.

Hehe! look at that lady there pointing up at you whilst you point down on her, great idea, I recall honey and I doing something similar a few years back. You know this would have made a great HDR bud.

It looks like a great place to explore; I think I like it better decommissioned, without weaponry!

And what a commanding view from your camera-sniper's perch! This is super, Bill! It really gives us a great view of this section. And of course it's always fun to see Tara busy getting her shots! I've gotta get up there sometime..... It would be great to see you two, and I could shoot the bejeebers out of this place...

The reverse view! lol A super idea to do this.. Good fun.. Well shot, shows the size of the place as well.. Rob

All that concrete. What were they worried about? The Germans coming through the Northwest Passage and attack Seattle? Great capture Bill, this also answers my question to Tara about you taking the picture from the 'camera blind'.
