Duxford Flying Legends 2009, well the rain got on a plane and went to Spain. The rain covers came off and things got 'noisy'....this Fw-190 is a reproduction, but it looked the dog's whotsits and flew like there was a Spitfire chasing it...actually at one point I think there was.....there were actually TWO of these but the other one stayed firmly on the ground.
Tomorrow we'll fast forward to 2010, a different picture altogether 'weather-wise'....it was a scorcher, Rob and I took lunch in the shade of an AA stall, the only shade we got all day....moan,moan 'too wet'..moan,moan 'too hot'..

Wow, that is a good looking replica. Have you seen any of the Me-262 replicas flying? Great photograph.

We have a real one here. Come on out and we'll take you to see it! August 11th it's flying along with a Bf-109. :D (I believe they call that Luftwaffe Day.) Your mono work on these is fabulous. Outstanding image!

With your treatment of this pic it looks really authentic repro or not! Super shot.

Oh, oh! Looks like lietenant Klutz has (chose one alternative, or more) - a) lost his way in the fog (landing on a BoB airstrip!) b) run out of gas and force landed on a BoB airstrip c) desperately needs to poo and pee and hopes nobody notices him landing on a BoB airstrip d) is so hung over after yesterdays party he doesn't know where he's landing e) is seeking political asylum (1944!) in the belief "pappa" Joe Stalin is overruning the continent f) sees a certain Neil Wilson (and Tailspin???) on the ground and wants to shake hands with this world famous aircraft designer Great photo. Another wonderful black/white with film grain. It's fun seeing these antagonists on the same airfield! Hmmm.... perhaps we should have a contest - which above alternative is the correct one? Keep up the good work! :-) Seems like the rain you've been having has arrived here. It's pouring down like MAD! Good thing those huge drops ain't bombs!

Real or not this is way beyond awesome Neil. The sight and sound of this must really be something else. A stunner mate :)

Ah! That was a brilliant day huh Neil! The sight of an Fw190 in the air... Had to rub your eyes! And my goodness it was quick! If they flew that fast in 'real' life, no wonder the RAF had trouble for a while! Will another appear this year? Will a REAL 109? Will a 262? (doubtful, Legends is a Piston event and as far I can tell staying that way 'at the moment'.. ' But other things.. Thats the thing about Legends.. They NEVER release a full line up until almost ON the day.. Swines LOL There will be over 50 aircraft flying... Start drooling.. Mega cool shot Neil! Rob

T-Rex's comment reminds me that I recently read in a history about the early years of the War in the Pacific that there were several times as it was about to become totally dark, a squadron of nine Japanese planes mistook one of our aircraft carriers for their own ship and tried to land! That particular book said that there were several other similar incidents that occurred on other ships. In this particular case, our Navy boys mistook them for ours as well--even though they were only expecting seven planes back. The first Japanese aircraft had to be waved off because he was coming in too low and it was only then that the familiar meatball symbol was seen as the plane flashed by. A destroyer escort began firing at the squadron veering away from the carrier and the carrier was signaling the destroyer captain to cease fire as he was firing at friendlies! The captain reportedly signaled back, "I know a Jap plane when I see one!" and kept firing away. He was joined by a lot of other escort ships as well. I can't remember if they ever hit any of them, but their fate was likely sealed as they probably were very low on fuel and it was growing dark and stormy. Wouldn't that make a great render!
