Description

OK. Rod asked me to upload some of my camping pictures. Well Rod, sorry to tell you that the weather wasn't exactly all that great so I didn't do all that much shooting. The best shot I got was the loon I uploaded a short time ago. BUT ... perhaps you might like to see the silly squirrels we had visiting our campsite. I took these pics with my I Pad2. These little guys were really quite tenacious! It all started with Holly feeding the chipmunks - North American Stripped Ground Squirrels is there specific name. We counted eight at one time feasting on the sunflower seeds and stuffing their cheeks to near bursting point. Next thing we know the red squirrels were moving in and getting quite pushy and demanding, to say the least. One youngster actually took a fascination to the strap hanging from the awning of our camper and was determined to get to it and swing. Sure enough he did, and we laughed so hard it startled him off which is too bad because I would have loved to see what he was going to do next, lol. The following link will take you take a short video I recorded using my I Pad2. It shows just how nasty these little guys can get where food is concerned. I'm with eekdog, "WATCH YOUR NUTS" - Seriously... I've heard people in the news do this without thinkning and the love to run up the pant leg, they freak out that they can't go out and then they find your nuts - it happens man - GOOGLE IT - LOL these little guys can bite through a pencil, so imagine how it'd feel on your nuts!!!

It is amazing how friendly some animals near a campground get when it comes to food. Anywhere else and they will hide as soon as you cross their comfort zone. All we have around here anymore are gray squirrels for the most part. And they are not friendly by an means. There were red, black, and flying ones years ago. The flying ones disappeared in the early 70s and the black and red ones shortly afterwards. Once in a while you will see a gray one with a red tail, not sure if they got into something or if it is just a gene popping up from interbreeding in the past.

LOL! Oh, man, you've got the little buggers sitting in your lap like puppies! Great shots, Mike! We used to have lots of reds around here, but the grays seem to have taken over. That was quite a video, too. Rambuctios little critters!

I've now looked at your video. Very typical squirrel behaviour - I want it all to myself! It's kind of sad that grey squirrels chase away the red and the black squirrels, which are a more "nice" and tamer kind. mikeerson has me laughing again. Yes, but such is rare. But, better not let them climb that far. Thanks for the beautiful photos and for the interesting video! Keep up the good work! :-)
