Description
A bush of red roses leaning on an old, battered wall of a building, once grand, today engulfed by the tide of time.
We are waiting for the next heat weave, our weathermen have nicknamed Charon, just to be on the anxiety side. In Greek mythology, Charon or Kharon is the ferryman of Hades who carries souls of the newly deceased across the rivers Styx and Acheron that divided the world of the living from the world of the dead. A coin to pay Charon for passage was sometimes placed in or on the mouth of a dead person. Some authors say that those who could not pay the fee, or those whose bodies were left unburied, had to wander the shores for one hundred years. Given the state of our economy, we Italians will be probably doomed, together with the Greeks and the Spaniards, to wander along those gloomy shores. I can't say why the Italian weathermen are so sadistic. Coundn't they name this heat weave Venus, Bacchus or some other merrier name?
Thanks for your kind comments.

Mio padre aveva la mania di dipingere le rose dopo averle fotografate,e sicuramente se avesse visto le tue,le avrebbe riprodotte in magnifici olii e acquerelli!!

A lovely image, and I really like the contrast here between the wonderfully red, vibrant roses and the background of the wall colour and texture! Interesting with the bricks showing through the crack as well! A very lovely artpiece!

Gorgeous roses against a wonderfully textured wall. A beautiful composition. I hope your heat wave cools down a bit.

I'm sorry for the heat, but you did a great job on this wall and rose, Sandra.

there's something doom-like about excessive heat, and I suppose those weather-people are answering a deeper call when they evoke spirits of dead. We're in a major heatwave too, and honestly, on some days I feel like some spirits of the netherworld have taken up residence here for a month. But yes, it would be nice if people used a cheerier name, esp with the woes that are hitting yours and other countries in europe now. (It's getting pretty bad for many Americans too, the ones who don't have all the money and play with the world's fate.) Your piece has beautiful rose captures, very saturated (as are many of the flowers are in this intense series); but it's given its final mystery by that beautiful wall behind it all, with its intense textures, the move from dark to light, and the beautiful bricks coming through the plaster/stucco, etc. Just a great choice visually. This wall feels like history, and it gives a perfect version of your description, as if a spirit from the deep were breaking through this saturated hot summer vision, to summon whoever these spirits summon. Beautiful and intense. Another strange and magical vision from this series...

Lovely red roses and I like the textured wall as a background. I like your narrative about the weather and weathermen!
