My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
Â
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
Â
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!

A lovely peek into the days gone and you are right about the color.

I do much prefer it in colour. So much to examine with a macro lens!

A reflection of a time long past but not forgotten. I've just been staring at this fascinating photo and visions of young Coastal Artillery soldiers, their grizzled old sergeants and young Lieutenants of 100 years ago come vividly to mind. So do their uniforms and the battery street complete with horses and wagons doing what horses and wagons did back then...lol. These concrete emplacements would have been spotlessly clean and orderly, there would have been no trees anywhere around. The vistas toward Puget Sound would have been clear and commanding...or as much as the weather would have allowed on any given day. All this I see in my mind's eye thanks to your fascinating image. Thanks for facilitating my imaginary trip down memory lane... My father was born (1908) when these were in full bloom.

Nicely done. The dreamy soft blur really works here.

Yes it is all those extras that give the building its character. An excellent capture.

As usual, you've made this look unbelieveable, Tara! A lovely shot!

Wonderful POV and perspective of this old fortification!

This is a fantastic capture Tara! I think your choice of the colour here was a perfect one, I do agree. Seems like there is so much history infused into this place... the atmosphere and mood speak volumes, and seem to tell a story in themselves. Wonderful subject and portrayal of this place!

Great textures with a lot of character in that wall & nice depth to it as well. A shame the sky is so washed out - this image would actually be a great candidate for tone mapping...

interesting view and photo ! fascinating!

Ah, the queen of texture does it again... And of course the composition just leads the viewer down the garden path (n the best possible way).

Very evocative of time past

Okay, this probably doesn't sound too surprising, but I'll say it, anyway...this looks like something you'd see after stepping off of the Number 8 as it makes a stop in one of the smaller towns just outside of Pekkur: only there appears to be sign-work in English. I'll have to see just what towns exist beyond the peripheries of Pekkur, and what elements of youth culture have gotten their hands on cans of spraypaint. Needless to say, I love this: the composition is superb and moody and you're absolutely spot-on about the textures and the small revelations that are made when the sky has that particular species of overcast, and the air itself is fat with all sorts of visual potentials. This photograph simply drips with that, and I suspect if I look at this full size, while squinting, I might see some gawky, skinny Agaran teenager with grubby fingernails, and a can of spraypaint, looking to declare something peurile or cryptic and existential, as only graffiti artists in central Europe are so fond of doing. I love it when a photograph evokes all of that, especially since Agara is way the heck over there and this marvel of a location is way over the other way. Stunning...so many worlds in this one shot!

Excellent atmosphere !!!
