Description
Wow, talk about dappled lighting!
Captured 6/8/12, a little after high noon, in beautiful Rynerson Park in beautiful Lakewood, California.
While trekking north along the San Gabriel River bike path, I came upon this narrow park, that I had never visited before, featuring this covered picnic table arrangement. Even as a long time shadow maven, I was stunned by this find. What contrast, what definition, what repetition! This was like manna from heaven, or winning the lottery.
Denise's geranium stamen shadow posting reminded me that I still had these photos in my files, and they would probably have remained there, all but forgotten. I wonder if the Bellevue Botanical Gardens has anything similar to this.
If I had come across this scene in the early morning, late afternoon, or on an overcast day, then there would have been no striking light/shadow display like this. In retrospect, with that slotted roof, I was wondering what they do when it rains, but I suppose no one should/would be in the park in that event anyway.
More pics to come.
Cheerybye, thankx for clicking on, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.

Very cool capture Harry I've never seen a rough like this before on a picnic area. Very observant to spot these cool shadows

Excellent captures of this wanton display of geometic shadows, Harry; what a great find! We don't have anything like this here, purely because of our prodigious rainfall, I'm sure. I wonder what the suntan would look like if someone sat unmoving for any length of time under that lovely pattern?

Amazing light and shadows seen here, Harry. I bet you took a lot more pics than this...and had a heck of a time deciding which to use for the collage.

That is so cool! I can't decide which way those slats are going. First they're horizontal. Then they're vertical. Never a dull moment and Very cool. Love looking at it almost as much as you had shootin' it! :-)

I like all 5 shadow shots Harry but especially #4 because of the super patterns created by the shadows. A mighty fine collage.

Just grand! Splendid photography. I've wanted to go to your recent work, but I still want to make a few more visits to your older works, as there's so much to cover. Tonight's theme will be your pattern photography---at least a representative sample---and I couldn't start with a better collection than this. I sense a 'journey' in your montage, from angle, to head-on shot, to angle again. Allso from the bright benches to the blueish hues of the shadows (esp visible in the last shot). An amazingly varied collection for basically 'one topic'. The shadows have a sameness; but, because of all the surfaces, they're transformed into all kinds of vectors and even twirls (eg, down the pillars---wonderful twirls). You got shadow's repose, its activity (shadows can be very active, for so-called passive phenomena), and its way of segmenting everything into a visual dance. Just grand. It shows again that, for you, the image is everywhere: You found a whole ballet company in a simple 'shelter'. Lesson to others: Keep your eyes open, music is everywhere if you know how to look...
