Description
Duxford Flying Legends 2012...Much like 2009, the day started wet and there was a gusting wind...neither are favorable to flying old planes or taking photos. However, like 2009, Ra the Sun God smiled, and besides a couple of light showers it was a great day....a great weekend in fact. Our first stroll on the flight line was hampered by most of the planes having rain covers over the cockpits (not very photogenic). However when things cleared up it was like a new day, and everyone got busy......not sure why I did this, but I'm glad I did...the low angle (kneeling in a puddle) and slight slant (not intended) resulted in this....well I like it.
For future reference, I went Pano crazy...like my previous 'An Inanimate Object (for Rob)', some huge pictures, these will have ( Z ) at the end of the title (as above).....so look out for them.My best 'Legends' to date in terms of areal shots, though my lense isn't as big as Rob's (hang on! size isn't that important you know) so not such close ups but good none the less. Also a LOT of video clips that will be going on my other site (I've already stuck one on Rob's :-) and I'll let you know when mine are up.
All the above applies for Waddington too...and as promised, news from 'The Plant' very soon.....

Wonderful scene and uniforms neil, love the gloves hanging in the boots. Good to see you suffering for your art and the weather did clesr up, it was well worth it mate if this shot is anything to go by. Looking forward to seeing so much more of what you took. Size is not important, it's where you point it!!! Oh..er...misses!!!

Ah, a back portrait of Neil and Tailspin on their way to their planes. Or,....? This is one great photo, Neil. Getting on your knees was a great idea. Gives another perspective, adds interest. The slight slant makes it more "dynamic", suggesting motion. I'm glad the weather cleared. I was wondering about it while I was having rain where I am. The gloves in the boots is a cool thing, but I wonder, it's a good way of loosing them if running to get airborne quick in anticipation of an attack. No time to run back and look for them. I'm also wondering about the uniforms. And, thanks for video clips. Sound, too? Would be great! I don't have to say "Keep up the good work!" - you're already at it! Am looking foreward to more! :-)

Amazing for me to think that similar scenes to this were played out during WWII and all it meant at the time to those who did this day after day was "all in a day's work." The adrenalin, the heart pounding, the tug in the mind that let you know only skill and a big chunk of luck would bring you back. I was the only one my father could talk to about these things and even then, so much he could not talk about at all. wonderful shot.
