Description

'tuther night, the moon was waxing towards full, in a cloudless blue sky. took my camera out, set on tripod, took a few picks. zoomed in as much as I could. I really liked the result. but because it was still light out, just before sunset, the sky was blue, and filled with that wonderful warm summer air haziness. I went through the shots, picked the best three, then the best on. I massaged it in GIMP, working on the levels, and contrast to compensate fr the haze and atmospheric distance. I did this to sharpen up the details of the surface, Sea of Tranquility, craters, mountain ridges.... the works. Gave the image a more of a night shot look. The advantage of shooting during daylight is that you don't get the high contrast between the white of the moon and the dark of space... you can compensate for it later. Camera is a Fuji S2950 Superzoom (and I know that some people will get snarly about how their DSLR's with zoom lenses are superior to mine, but I caught the moon... so la de dah...) this was an enjoyable exercise, might do more... waddya think? and unless you've made other plans, have a great day!
