Description

I like this picture for the reasons one enjoys this sort of thing ... white boat, blue water, sunny day ... but it's the name of the boat that promped me to take this picture. Wedding of Eric and Caro. Summer, 2004: Two techno-geek friends of mine got married in their back yard. Another friend officiated, reading the wedding ceremony from notes cribbed in a leather-bound volume with "Marvel" printed across the front in gold leaf. Tux for the groom, white satin and bare feet for the bride, fabulous food and great friends all around. It was, and still is, a good match. They made decisions about children before they committed to marriage. "Yes" to children, absolutely. They both wanted to have a family life with a couple of kids and a dog. Eric's only stipulation: "If it is a boy child, his middle name shall be Ragnarok." Caro agreed, albeit with a bit of fear and trepidation. She knew he was serious. If they had a boy, his middle name WOULD be Ragnarok. She wasn't excited about the prospect of her son being named for the Last Battle of Norse mythology, the Twilight of the Gods, but she loves Eric and it was a compromise she was willing to make. In the course of time, Eric and Caro had two children, both girls, and Caro breathed a sigh of relief with the result of each ultrasound. I believe they're stopping at two, but you never know. The girls are six and two, so another one isn't outside the realm of possibility. If they ever have a boy, I'll be sure to let you know.

Great shot, but not what I expected when seeing the title. On the positive side of the name thing. Ragnarok is indeed the twilight of the gods, but it also tells of a rebirth for humans after the giants and gods have destroyed one another.

An excellent capture and story to go with it. We could do with this sort of weather here as ours is drizzly and dreary looking at the moment. Ooh for some sunshine.

I just had to google the origins of that name, I was so intrigued by it ;) "The name Ragnarok means the final battle of the gods in Norway. The history of Ragnarok originates from a Norwegian background" ... aha, there we have it! who would have thunk it? (I just spotted a bit of moss on top, of one of the pylons, or is it?) Give me a boat any day! ;) (over a horse or kingdom) fine story complemented by a cool pic, BB

You already had me with the boat (for a variety of reasons), but the story is simply fantastic! Sounds like the kind of wedding I like to photograph, and there aren't many!

Great looking shot, love marine pictures, boats etc.., The craft has a certain Military look about it.. Could it have been an old Coast Guard vessel? Excellent.. Rob

Yes, please let me know it there is born a boy with this name, Tara. How interesting that you saw this boat and made such a lovely capture of it. I was thinking about your story, Tara. All is in fact unsure. You don't, know where will the boat go? And, anyway will one get a child together, or what sex it will be. Although on the latter will fix all the necessary medical knowledge to determine that.

Middle names are the ones no one really like or want, but there you have it. I can think of worse ones than Ragnarok, but at least it wasn't going to be his first name. Because of course, then his nickname would be Rag!! Nice shot of this fine boat!
