Description

This is the cockpit of the Boeing N2S-3 'Kaydet' No. N747RB owned by Don Sloan of Dover, DE. I don't have a pilots license, and I have never flown in an open cockpit bi-plane, but looking at this beautiful, old aircraft I wondered what could have happened if I had been old enough to learn to fly in one of these, before transitioning to an A-6 for an instrument rating. I could easily see myself flying around on a sunny Sunday afternoon in one of these keeping track of the old instruments and checking out the scenery. And the engine sounded fantastic too. Low pitch, easy deep rumble. Picture taken on 2 June 2012 at Spaatz Field, reading, PA, Sig...

Well, if anything I would like to learn how to drive. I have a new car and there are a lot of gimmicks on it I don't know how to use!

I'd take the plane over the car in a heart-beat! Great capture Sig - when I saw this, my first thought was the song by the Royal Guardsmen: Snoopy Vs the Red Baron This is so cool Sig

That's true. But besides the initial cost of the aircraft, there are hangar space fees, landing fees, fuel costs, maintenance cost, its just a little more than I can afford. But it doesn't hurt to fantasize about getting free flying lesson, if you were born at the right time, and of course, you might have been shot down. A lot of guys did!

Our friend Jack has a open cockpit and he used to love to fly it in. :))))) Where he had some medical problems a couple of years back he doesn't fly any longer. :( Most excellent capture my friend. :)))) Thank you for sharing. :)))) Carry A Smile In Your Heart :)))))

A great serie about planes and this one looks fantastic. These open cockpits remind me of scenes in Indiana Jones or movies about this periode :-)

I love this! It's so inviting. Your close-in view makes it look like I'm about to climb in and get a nice ride through the sky. I've never flown in a biplane, but I've had the pleasure of an ultralight flight, and it was amazing. Like Jeff says ... there's nothing between you and the sky in one of those things. My cousin Mike used to fly, build and maintain ultralights, and he took me up in a two-seater. What a joy! I would go for a ride in an open cockpit biplane in a second. (You see, I'm cheating and answering part of your email in a comment.) Have you read Illusions by Richard Bach? It's about barnstorming, among other things. A favorite of mine. :)

Great work on this close up Sig.. Excellent detailing! I was looking at a website, where you can convert to 'Warbirds'.. lol Every pilots dream! lol Get this!! You need 16,000 hours flight time on tail draggers like this (or others) to be even able to go solo! Still fancy waiting that long? lol Look forward to the next shot mate! Rob

Beautiful shot of the vintage biplane. I also would love to fly. My dream is to one day build a gyrocopter.
