Zīda by KatesFriend

Translated from the Personal Journals of Detective Yuri Tsvyk Metropolitan Kyiv Directorate For Criminal Investigation 15th January 2271 - 04:33 UTC Translation Class: 16C (Colloquial Earth English) Already, laser testing is resumed. The blue-green flashes are glorious at sunrise. Ice crystals in the upper atmosphere scattering coloured light onto the clouds. I'm told this display is a shock wave manifested from the condensation of energy coaxed into matter. That said, the engineers must find some way to suppress the colossal flashes if there is to be hope of a terminal on land. Although some propose an artificial island as a solution. Inspector Rabeh returned to Sala last night, I travel to Kyiv later this morning. A shame, I came to like this place. In truth I was wary of the alleged heat and humidity of Equatorial Africa - showing my bigotry - but Juba by the sea, one might believe one was in the Abşeron - in summer. Should I bring the family here for my next leave? Sofiya will enjoy that, she can extend her v-swain collection of 'exotic boys'. In that regard, she and Rabeh are soul sisters I suspect. Rabeh's superiors are happy that the Kindjal matter is closed - as are mine. Not surprising, in truth there is much political pressure for Zīda to return to schedule. Especially from the realm and UN levels. As recommended, the rig is now positioned 18 km out to sea, more difficult for infiltrators to attack one hopes. But questions nag at me. Questions for which I suspect I will never have an answer. Red Kindjal: a criminal organization, violence and murder are their tools, but guided by profit nonetheless. What were the takings in destroying the laser rig? They suffered losses of assets; capable agents, materials and exposure for no obvious benefit. Their loss compounded by failure. The Kindjal have investments in illegal traffic off world, perhaps the space tower is seen as a threat to revenues. But Project Zīda has yet to pass the feasibility stage. Even if all the exotic engineering works as intended, it will be at least ten years before trade commences. Why not wait until the tower was nearing completion? Some theorize this attack was commissioned. Another organization or faction paying the Kindjal to destroy the rig. In general it would be feasible but I doubt that. Experience reminds me that the Kindjal do not suffer the agendas of others. They work for nobody. And yet, there is the ethnic composition of the crew. As I said, the Kindjal never work for and rarely work with other gangs, and never from outside of their culture. However, two of the dead are from Shenyang, integrated with Kindjal members from Yel'sk. I hope that the autopsy will reveal some facts about them, what records which exist are falsified. Not very surprising in and of itself, but so far digital audits can not restore the original transcripts. Even the underlying digital impressions are gone, something I did not realize was possible. Indeed, we might say that the false records are now genuine records. This fact, at least, troubles more than just myself. Forgive me, the motivations and associations do not make sense. Nor did the conduct of the crew - their 'route' as they call it. Kindjal agents kill themselves to avoid capture, true, but equally they are known for their thorough readiness. Always their 'routes' have an exit, interrupt or escape in accordance with their mantra of evading detection as much and for as long as possible. Regardless of success, the squad seemed prepared to die on the platform. Violence with no profit and no escape, this appears less an offense than a statement of some sort. Yet terrorism is not business. Churchill might liken this affair as one page from a missing chapter in an unwritten book that is not finished.

That is a very beautiful sky. I would love to do landscapes and would like to buy Vue, but I am afraid it will have a big learning curve and not sure that I want to learn a new program. I have been doing poser for a long time, and still am not at a level as I feel I should be. Sorry for blabbering. Great image.

I've been away for a bit: simply posting and scrambling back into the chaos that has become life with a new job on a weird (largely nocturnal) schedule. Ah...the life of a struggling artist. The struggle is never with art. Funny how that goes, and speaking of art, I love both the image and the text accompanying it. There are intimations of an entire world beyond what's revealed and that percolates and bubbles along nicely, both behind the image and the tale illuminating it (or is it the other way around?) Wonderful work. I'll catch up just as soon as I can, but as I'm online now, I figured I'd at least comment on one piece.

The story ... there's a sweeping novel here. You should write it!
