Description
this is in Sapulpa, Oklahoma
Bates Burnett and his wife, Dannie Ross Burnett, built the Burnett Mansion in 1911. Bates and Dannie were parents to a daughter, Katherine, and a son, Billy. Bates Burnett was a prominent businessman in Sapulpa, and his wife was the great-grand niece of John Ross, the famous Cherokee Indian chief from the Trail of Tears.
The Burnett family spared no expense in building the house, as it was Mr. Burnett’s intention to “build the finest home in Oklahoma.” This Southern plantation-style home boasts Tiffany stained glass windows and fixtures, cut glass windows and doors, woodwork from Spain and the Philippines, and hand-painted walls and ceilings. The real jewel of the home, however, is the third-floor ballroom, complete with a spring-loaded dance floor and crystal chandelier.
