01 BEAUTIFUL THINGS - was a veritable labor of love which I worked on periodically over a span of nearly 12 years. In actual measured time however, there is slightly in excess of about a 1000 hours of literal painting, (this due in part from many re-workings). The painting represents a number of THINGS that I personally find BEAUTIFUL, thus the painting�s title, �Beautiful Things�. The original was a mixed-media on a 22 by 28 inch illustration board, but it was severely damaged while being outside on display in San Diego. After returning to Squamish, British Columbia and finally getting settled into our 3 bedroom accommodation, I remounted the painting on coroplast (a lightweight corrugated plastic sheet which resembles thick cardboard) then I patched all the rips with a special silicone-like compound, sanded it perfectly smooth, and finally repainted the entire picture. After entering the computer age and learning how to use digital paint programs, I completely reworked the painting making numerous improvements that would have been far more than difficult to achieve via literal brush and paint, but I was careful not to destroy the image�s original look and mood.
