Description

I hate war... But I went. I wasn't going to post this, rather it was something I was working on for myself. But when I got up this morning I saw on the news a story about a freakin' kid who shot 50 people in a movie theater... who the hell have we become? Years ago I found this poem, a prayer really and it always helps me to remember to have compassion for those around us... A Corpsman's Prayer Grant me, oh Lord, for the coming events; Enough knowledge to cope and some plain common sense. Be at our side on those nightly patrols; And be merciful judging our vulnerable souls. Make my hands steady and as sure as a rock; when the others go down with a wound or in shock. Let me be close, when they bleed in the mud; With a tourniquet handy to save precious blood. Here in the jungle, the enemy near; Even the corpsman can't offer much lightness and cheer. Just help me, oh Lord, to save lives when I can; Because even out there is merit in man. If It's Your will, make casualties light; And don't let any die in the murderous night. These are my friends I'm trying to save; They are frightened at times, but You know they are brave. Let me not fail when they need so much; But to help me serve with a compassionate touch. Lord, I'm no hero -- my job is to heal; And I want You to know Just how helpless I feel. Bring us back safely to camp with dawn; For too many of us are already gone. Lord bless my friends If that's part of your plan; And go with us tonight, when we go out again. Author Unknown (I quit using the word "corpsman" a while back, too many thought it was corpse-man... actually it is pronounced Core-man... so, Medic will suffice. a friend once said to me "hell man, we were all medics". Here's a link to a great song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fb_Jzgnrpv8&feature=related

It is sad we must have wars.. too bad our leaders do not do the fighting.. Corpsman's navy medic's were attached to Marine units and Navy Special Ops units many many would not have made it back without them... dropping in the midst of a fire fight to work on the wounded... IMOHO THEY were the bravest of the brave! and Seth my friend I am so glad you shared this awesome work and you were also one of them! The Jerk in CO was a lunatic coward and i hope he fries!

well, you certainly know how i feel about war...your image imparts the strength of those who battle for us, their grit and loyalty in the face of almost impossible, insurmountable conditions. thanks for the lovely, sensitive poem too.

Great work on this strong image, and the words fit perfectly (it's really crazy, not the 1st time and certainly not the last one something like this happens, sadly).

O,DISCORDIA! What will become of us, these human beings who sweated blood and tears and life to build nations so we would cease being "savages", so we'd be something more with all our intelligence and laws, our compassion for fellow men on all roads in life. A fallacy, it seems. We are no less savage since our neanderthal ancestors crawled out of the ooze and looked to the stars in idiotic befuddlement. The Spirit cries out--all this violence and non-sensical hatred. As was mentioned though, there are equally as many good stories of the kindness of the human heart, though it's the crazy stuff you hear about more often. Perhaps we can save ourselves yet, if we don't lose our nobility. I wonder... That Corpsman poem should be taught to all small children--we all should be the medic, and save each other. Brilliant picture and really amazing words, they reach into the soul! OXOXOOX Jane

Another senseless tragedy added to an already too long of list....Your creation and words strikes chords that move and shape thoughts...Everyone has opinions and when they can be expressed through art it gives it a louder speaking voice.Your contribution along with others I have viewed thus far speak volumes.
