Description
July 20th, 2012, First showing of the New Batman movie, Midnight...
12 people were killed when a gunman barged into a crowded Colorado theater, set off gas canisters and opened fire as spectators dove for cover. Dozens of others were injured, including 11 in critical condition.
Alex Sullivan planned to ring in his 27th birthday with friends at a special midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" and then celebrate his first wedding anniversary on Sunday.
Late Friday, Sullivan's family confirmed that police told them he was among those killed.
Micayla Medek, 23, was also among the dead, her father's cousin, Anita Busch, told the Associated Press.
Busch said the news, while heartbreaking, was a relief for the family after an agonizing day of waiting for news.
"I hope this evil act ... doesn't shake people's faith in God," she said.
A blogger who recently wrote of surviving a Toronto shooting was also among those killed, the woman's brother said.
The death of Jessica Ghawi, who was also known as Jessica Redfield, was a "complete and utter shock," said her brother, Jordan Ghawi.
He has been using his blog and Twitter account to update what he knew about his sister's condition throughout the day. He also appeared on the NBC "Today" show.
Jordan Ghawi said on his website that a man who was with his sister at the theater described the chaos, saying he and Jessica Ghawi dropped to take cover when the gunman first started shooting. Jessica Ghawi was shot in the leg, her brother wrote, describing details relayed to him by a man identified on the blog only as a mutual friend named Brent.
Jessica Ghawi began screaming when she was shot, and the friend tried to calm her and stop the bleeding, according to Jordan Ghawi.
The man was then shot, but he continued attending to Jessica Ghawi's wound before he realized she had stopped screaming, Jordan Ghawi stated. The man said Jessica Ghawi had been shot in the head.
Jordan Ghawi said the friend escaped the theater after being shot twice, but he was expected to survive. Jordan Ghawi praised the man, saying his "actions are nothing but heroic."
Jessica Ghawi, 24, moved to Denver from Texas about a year ago and friends and colleagues described her as outgoing, smart and witty.
"She was always kind of a sponge as far as how she could be an even better journalist and sports broadcaster," said Peter Burns, a radio sports show host with Mile High Sports Radio in Denver, where Ghawi recently interned.
Ghawi blogged at length about surviving the Eaton Centre mall shooting in Toronto that killed two people and sent several others to the hospital. Burns and his girlfriend, Lauren Anuskewicz, both said the blog reflected everything she told them.
"She was like, 'You guys would never believe what happened,'" Anuskewicz said.
Jessica Ghawi wrote of the Toronto shooting: "I was shown how fragile life was on Saturday. I saw the terror on bystanders' faces. I saw the victims of a senseless crime. I saw lives change. I was reminded that we don't know when or where our time on Earth will end. When or where we will breathe our last breath."
Anuskewicz said Jessica Ghawi had been in Toronto visiting a boyfriend and "it obviously was a very scary situation."
"And to be just so close to it," she added. "It's just impossible to imagine that not even a month and a half later this would happen, and she would be involved. It's just awful."
Yet, Burns said, Jessica Ghawi seemed more enlivened than intimidated by surviving that shooting.
"After the Toronto incident, I think she even looked at that like, 'Hey, even after that, I'm able to pursue my dream,'" he said.
Jessica Ghawi last tweet stated in all capital letters, "movie doesn't start for 20 minutes."
On Saturday morning, parents of John Larimer released a statement that Navy officials notified them about midnight that their 27-year-old son was one of the 12 killed.

Excellent render of a horrible day, Mike! I could not believe it, even though things like this happen too often. And he hasn't said why he did it.

This was a tragic event that began as a night of entertainment.

When I hear of this and other atrocities I think god should be totally ashamed of himself for having sat through every murder and death thats ever taken place. Personaly I think he's the ultimate terrorist and sadist!! that being said mike your image is well done highlighting this awful event, BTW I believe in god we just dont speak anymore an he knows why at one point! I was very religious and had a great relationship or so I thought until I started to reason and ask why!! Its a nice dedi mike the sad thing is it will happen again and again till god humbles himself and can give us all a good account of why he himself has allowed it!! To Me and many others he's just a big big letdown as a aparent!

Response to Shroom_Magic3D I keep an open mind to religion - I'm not going to be a Tom Cruise and throw my family away over it..... I use to go to church when I was in grade school for years. We had a minister that would scream at us durring sermons: "You're going to Hell".... we'll my brothers and sisters had a talk with our Mom and said we don't want to go to church anymore this guy keeps screaming we're going to hell... so I stopped. ...My Mom told me God talks to me.... I said, no he doesn't.... it took me years to understand my subconscience is God - God tells me when I'm doing something right or wrong. From my thinking and wondering about Heaven, I see it this way = we all go to Heaven, even the bad people... why? let's say someone is soooo good but their kid is bad.... can the Good person really be in Heaven if their child is in Hell?..... The ones that do good are rewarded the ones that aren't are sent back to Earth after the ones in Heaven have had enough.... We do rest in Heaven, so, if we want excitement, we comeback to Earth, the good get to choose what time period they want to live in, stuff like that.... but God doe throw some stuff at them to keep it interesting. so, with the way I think, I can't be mad at God. You really shouldn't be mad, we all have to die. That gunman is a bad, sick man.... I feel sorry for him... he will see God and God will give him all the pain her put ALL OF US through - that's one hell of a punishment, so I can see this sick fuck coming back to earth after death and doing it all over again - he is stuck in a vicious cycle.... the people he killed are in Heaven and it's like they just got off a rollercoaster - they'll enjoy Heaven for a while and then when they want some excitement, they'll be back here in a different time, space. I've known a lot of religious people in my life, family members that believe God wrote the Bible and Jesus is white - lol.... they said with jesus living where he did, his skin was dark - I can believe that. I believed God encourged man to write the Bible, but to me, the bible has bee translated over and over, rewriten... who knows what to think. I just wrote you to get you to think God is great and he/she is the best thing to carry with you = anger is danger.... love is the answer. to tell you the truth, I'd rather go out with a bang than fade away with like having Bone cancer - My Grandfather died of that and crap has a way of staying in the family. smiles are contagious, give your God a smile.... cause you really don't want to feel his wrath, do you?

Such a Terrible thing to happen but these things do, the reason we don,t really know but i know governments do lots of experiments on people and i believe we are being messed with.. great contribution though Mike.
bobrgallegos
Great dedication to those effected by this terrible tragedy!! I agree with with Lynell (tennesseecowgirl) I would have excluded the photos of the deranged killer as his photo has no place here among the fallen.
mikeerson
In response to bobrgallegos I know some people do not wish to see the face of the Killer and to those I'm sorry... This upload has to do with how Our lives, even the killers, changes in a heartbeat. The reason I chose to show the face of the Killer is because he is the focal point, without him, none of this would of happened...it's a touch between fantasy meets reality, Batman represents fantasy, the Killer - reality... In my picture, Batman is holding a picture of the Killer in shock as if to say: "How do I protect against this sick fuck?".... Batman scratches his head and drops the photo. Fantasy can't stand up against reality. that is the story behind showing the Killer.

Holmes had his first court date today, live on tv here in Denver. he sat there, never turned his head. the public defender the whole time sat next to him with a pen in her hand. He's got nothing to lose... with him showing no reguard for life, I kinda expected him to jump her.... he looked like he was mumbling something and moving his eyes crazily... definately psycho..... I had a feeling he was talking to the devil as he sat there..... yeah, I believe in weird shit. I have seen the Devil and let me tell you, he looks just like how man portrays him, only scarier.... when did I see him? 911. when the second building blew up, a puff of a flaming cloud came out... immediately, I could see it and it was like he had his head down looking at the ground and then raised it to where you saw his eyes look straight at you with glowing yellow flame, the mouth opened as if to roar.... I watched it live and when I saw it, I took a step back from the tv - the Devil does exist. It's natural for everyone to feel sorry for the victims = I DO. ....but I feel sorry for Holmes.... he's the worst victim of them all, the Devil has his soul and it really makes me wonder how he fell into this hate - if it was hate..... I believe the Devil took over on him and with him having so much time in his favor to kill, I also believe God put an end to his vacancy in Heaven - He jammed his gun - I just heard about that today.... 12 people dead with a machine gun and shot gun and whatever else he had - that 12 could of easily been just under a hundred. I don't go to church, wanted to let you know I won't quote the Bible on you = lol.... but I do believe God is in me, talks to me and my mind is open to all reliigion. I'M RELIGIOUS WITHOUT A RELIGION. Peace, Mike

great work again erland

I have to strongly disagree with your comment --mrestey people don't kill ....guns do. Cannot even imagine the worse blood spread of all if others were carrying guns holy sh,,t or shoot! Saw this guy on TV in the court room he is strange looking and he just had a straight spaced out look in his eyes Not that it's any excuse (there is none)but I wonder if drugs were in his system because he looked spacey as hell I hope they don't waste our tax money hope they put a rush on this and get whatever done asap Great work on this mike : thanks a bunch

A very hearted and deep tribut to the victims of this shooting, Mike. It is so meaningless. All my thoughts to the victimized families.. Though, I can't avoiding saying, there is too many and also heavy weapons and it is too easy to get them some places...NRA says it is not guns which kill people but people who kill - but why not avoiding them to get these?... I know this could give som controversy but in countries with very restricted laws concerning weapons, much fewer are killed...In 2008 12.000 persons was killed in US by firearms - in Japan? Only 11 persons same year... Link: http://www.businessinsider.com/how-many-americans-killed-with-guns-2012-7

Karma is working... We all die sooner or later. If you kill in a past life, everything comes back to you in the same way...
