Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

This particular nautical contrivance has at least been in place since 1998: I remember it, while also cringing at the musical tastes of a particular Albanian (He Who Must Not be Named)...I mean...I have nothing against Celine Dion, but please: not while I'm eating! Anyway...this has been there since 1998, and it looks like it's an accidental planter, which makes this a nice bit of symmetry, as there's beachfront grassland (a grass and bird sanctuary) near the light-buoy pier. The grasses in this husk are of similar breeds to what's growing in the 3 acres of beachfront property, now being re-colonized by native cacti. And what does any of this have to do with anything? Who knows? We live in a quantum universe and so the connections might have to be found through an intense, multi-dimensional interrogation, but I'm sure this all has something to do with something. I like this, a lot, and I remember having my legs sand-blasted that day. What an oddly nice sensation that was. It was like I was having the sweat blasted from every part of my body beneath my knees. And to top it off, I got some rather nice pictures of...um...well...I have no idea what those were, but there were two of them! This is a great shot. I really like the unexpected sense of scale.

I wonder where the dirt came from. I would be looking around for a nearby hole! This makes for a great picture. It's fun to look at, and even more interesting to think about! :)

There was outcry in Poole this last week when a similar vessel in much the same sort of site was attacked by angle grinder to be removed for scrap. Luckily the men were stopped in time and the children who play in it daily were very relieved. Generations have been pirates and explorers there.

I think her sailing days are over!

Well, they are over now, but the fact it has lasted so long filled with dirt shows it could have been used as intended for longer so it has been a bit of a waste of resources of late. Instead, children could have been learning to sail, for real!
