Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

The world's funky weather is caused by the Icelandic eruptions, 2 years in a row. Remember? Air travel to/from Europe was interrupted for 6 days. Cubic kilometers of particulate matter were spewed into the Earth's atmosphere. Past eruptions' studies have shown that it takes years for the particulates to settle back to ground. They cause droughts, freezing and unusual precipitation. And we, the humans, are ever on the receiving end. Good pic.

Very cooling, Corey! I don't like any extremes in weather, moderation in all is best. Too hot at 75 for me.

As I am without air conditioning and it's too hot to actually sleep without constantly waking up to swear up a storm, I've decided to check here and see what's up and...well...I saw this! WOW! Snow. I like that stuff...but like Andrea, I prefer the middle road. Extremes are not worthy of the stress they put a person through. I remember everyone luxuriating in the abnormally warm winter, and well...I was on pins and needles, wondering if the warming trend was going to continue through summer. And...lo and behold...the warming trend continued. NOW, if this means that we'll have a moderate winter, I'm okay with that...but weather like this is like jet lag, going in one direction it's bad enough, but going in the opposite direction, it's hell on a Monday. (I learned that from Prague...going from west to east isn't nearly as bad as going from east to west. UGH! I guess it's the same for the weather: going from a warm winter to a HOT summer is nowhere near as bad as going from a hot summer to a mild winter. Unfortunately, Chicago is too chaotic for us to have a mild winter next winter.) This is a great shot and I love the light and the richness of the details. This rocks.

A wonderful winter's shot to cool everyone down. Even we are having quite a warm day here even though it is winter. I am waiting impatiently for spring. I like how the snow has made patterns on the water and ice.

This is a most excellent scene! I won't tell you how hot it was here today ... it wouldn't do you a bit of good ... but it was too hot for my taste! Your snow makes me feel better already. :)
