Description
In the city centre one should be safe enough, since it's mostly a 'pedestrians only' area. Things aren't so simple, however! That cyclist didn't pass behind the woman with the dog, but when she started crossing, pedalled faster in order to cut across in front of her. What a gentleman! Moreover, the curious installation made of three poles isn't usually there, and it created a dangerous obstacle. Some genius at the Townhall decided to support multiculturalism by financing and installing that work. It unites a typical group of 'bricole' (Venetian name of the poles used both to signal low floors in the canals and the lagoon, and landing places) painted by some immigrants with 'African' colours. An attached notice explained the idea to the populace. Nothing to say about cultural experiments. I only wonder how much it cost, and whether a location in one of the many small squares and large pavement areas wasn't a better idea. In fact, this downtown street is one of the few with mixed traffic: not only cyclists, but also residents' cars , and suppliers' vans.
Thank you for your kind comments.

A really neat, candid image of the daily life and the casual environment being presented here. Interesting guy riding on his bike with that suit! :) I also like the "totems"... very pretty colours!

The ‘poles’ do have a phallic look to them and I will have to think about that! The young people, on bicycles, in this country, think they own the roads and sidewalks. I won’t jump out of their way on the sidewalks and I get rude comments and hand gestures as they have to stop or cut into the street. I found the young lady with the dog very interesting.

Quirky capture! Lots of details to enjoy.

Nice capture Sandra. I don't think the poles fit in with the Italian architercture! We have similar problems (if thats what it can be called) here too!

Ciao Sandra. Bel condensato di situazioni in un unico scatto. Come non concordare con te? Diciamo sempre che oramai ci siamo abituati, evidentemente non è così. Per fortuna! Come dicono gli anglofono bella cattura!

Fine capture - the same problem in Copenhagen, cyclists act as no rules are for them too. It creates a lot of dangerous situations both for them self as well as for others. Fortunately drivers don't do the same (at least yet!)..

There is so much to see in this photo: so much to contemplate and explore! And to top it off, you've provided a great commentary. I love the colors, the sense of life (even if such life also includes the absence of chivalry, or the misplacement of art.) Brilliantly seen and presented. I like this quite a lot.

you're lucky to have a downtown with colour... here, City Hall is trying it's best to "kill" the downtown...Sad.... (maybe she should have set the dog on the man... ;-)
