Description

This is a young River Otter that is recovering from injuries, at the Flamingo Gardens rescue center, west of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The North American river otter (Lontra canadensis) is a semi aquatic mammal endemic to the North American continent, found in and along its waterways and coasts. An adult river otter can weigh between 11 and 31 pounds (5 and 14 kg). The river otter is protected and insulated by a thick, water-repellent coat of fur. They are members of the weasel family and are equally versatile in the water and on land. Info from Wikipedia. This otter had been hit by a car. Photo taken February 2009. Your otter looks impressing on zoom, and I hope it will be and stay, in a good health for long. It's such a cuty, but I'm also impressed by the weight of it, not knowing if all otters are such heavy.
