Description

Our annual trip up into the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This mountain range covers about 25 percent of the area, of state of New Hampshire, is part of the Appalachian Mountains and are considered the most rugged mountains in the six states that make up New England. According to tradition, the name came from early explorers who first sighted the mountains from ships, off the coast, and seeing the highest peaks that would often be snow-capped. An alternate theory is that the mica-laden granite, of the summits, looked white to observers. Thank you Wikipedia for that information. The bear warnings are real and these signs are on every door. One of the mornings, two bears had the chamber maids trapped in the linen closet. The landscapers chased them off with water hoses. They really are not that big, they are NOT like Grizzle Bears. Do not bother to zoom. Yes, that is my shadow. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

fascinating sign, especially to one who only would see a bear in a zoo. Your background info was most helpful.

I used to have a real terror of bears, but never having run into one it's settled down a bit. I heard that there was one spotted last year on the next block, but I've never seen or heard any sign of one.

Look at that, when you're up there in the summer and when you're down here in the winter there is always something with big teeth that might try and eat you. ;D LOL! Wonderful sign capture! :)

This sign would surely get noticed and I hope you don't have a face to face encounter. I'm glad they aren't grizzlies you have.

LOL!! Well Dana, we could actually use signs like that right here in Merrimack! We have four black bears (started out as a mom and two cubs) that make their rounds around the town. The other day one was spotted very close to our house. LOL...where were the maids trapped in the linen closet? Great sign!
