Bothe - I've tried to grow poppies up on the mountain top without much luck. But I did manage to grow one beautiful orange poppy and then watched a little squirrel reel it in by the stem and eat it. Oh well ... they last a lot longer in a painting. :o)

as I'm back sporadically now, I can only do a few images tonight/morning, and I chose this from your sumptuous gallery because of the complexity, the illusory play of vase and light and the way the vase seems to be made of the flowers themselves, because the poppy is a favorite flower of mine, and because of the many signature elements that one finds in your work. The poppy petals are actually almost brittle, here, almost like crepe (crepe comes from the same root as "crisp"), and they undulate and grow with that sumptuous organic outreach that typifies so much of your always-sensuous flower work. Your purples flow into your reds like flame (if one looks closely they'll see "tongues" of purple in a few cases), the petals curve and even protect the stamens, and they seem to meld into air itself. This is another thing you do---ie, transforming matter into air and spirit. The petals 'echo', here; they create waves in space itself. The leaves below the flowers look like a sumptuous salad (you might have served some wine!), and then the vase is awash in the flowers themselves. You often allow objects to grow into each other: matter into air, solid into liquid, etc, etc, a genuine collaboration of nature and life. And the surrounding areas are filled with hints and whispers of other leaves and flowers, resonating with their essences as if singing the same music out of respect for their inhabitants. Finally, the reds and crimsons at bottom are gloriously full and sensuous; and the very bottom suggests that all this activity goes on well beneath the frame...ie, more of your 'spirit-ground'. It's a sumptuous wending work, filled with life and beautiful painterly textures and tones. Beautiful, Carol. I'll be back for more as I return here more, but it's always a pleasure to do more than look, to muse and share what I see...And thank you for your constant visits and favs whenever I return: I much appreciate them after my long absences...
