Description

good day/evening to all. i believe this to be a spicebush butterfly. part of it's tail is missing. i noticed last year when i was photographing butterflies alot of them seemed to be a little torn up. i guess they have predators after them of some sort as all creatures seem to. i hope you enjoy and as always comments/critiques deeply appreciated. thank you for viewing of course you'll see the most detail if you zoom. good day... ***chills and thrills***

Butterflies and moths are so easily damaged...rather like mythical dragons with ripped flight membranes! No matter, this image is gorgeous and I simply love the colors and the details. The control of color and light is absolutely superb. I love insect photography, but for some reason, butterflies avoid me...but then, maybe it's because I tend to find myself in the company of those pleasant sorts of predatory insects, like yellowjackets. This is a gorgeous shot! Feel free to do more!

It looks like a type of Swallowtail, that have two long tails that are often ripped up. Their color pattern makes the tail resemble a head so a lot of bird strikes take an expendable part allowing the butterfly to live long and prosper! Nice shot!
