Description

Or at least I think it's an iris. Andrea may claim otherwise. Captured 8/6/12, early morning, somewhat of a walk away in the neighborhood. ZOOM for best results. These lovely blooms were the only ones among all the iris plants, sitting very low in a shabby flower bed in front of a small business on the boulevard. I bent over more than I should have and came up with this snap. Sayonara, and have a nice day.

Indeed Andrea will! hehe! Alstromeria, actually, and a very nice pic.

Okay, if Andrea is correct, here is some Wikipedia info on the Alstroemeria: it is commonly called the Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas, and a South American genus of about 120 species of flowering plants. Almost all of the species are restricted to one of two distinct centers of diversity, one in central Chile, the other in eastern Brazil. Species of Alstroemeria from Chile are winter-growing plants while those of Brazil are summer-growing. All are long-lived perennials except A. (Taltalia) graminea, a diminutive annual from the Atacama Desert of Chile. I've researched this, and I could be wrong, but it still looks like an iris to me.

It is a beautiful capture but I agree with Andrea it is an Alstromeria. I love their spotted throats. You certainly made us all bite with the bait you set, just seeing if we were on our toes and alert. lol.

What a beauty, Harry; I wouldn't have known what it was, I was going to guess some kind of day lily. Good thing there are some experts here! Great capture, and you need to be careful bending down for these shots. Sometimes I have trouble getting back up again!

Gorgeous image! The flower is beautiful from both side and front, and this shows both off to good advantage. And of course Andrea is correct ...

A lovely photo and gorgeous colors in zoom! It looks like an Iris to me also but would not get caught dead going against Andrea's ID. She has baled me out more than once!
