Description

After passing Mount Kenya we turned off onto a bumpy, rutted road to Samburu. I remember thinking they had taken the shock absorbers out of the truck for authenticity. By 3:00 p.m. we were in the park. Our first look was the Samburu River. The park is a gently rolling plain surrounded by mountains on all sides. The plain is covered with grasses and acacia trees, the thorn trees of Africa. Someone spotted an Oryx. The bus went wild. Our first animal! This was followed by sightings of gazelle, zebra and baboon. As the sun began to set we pulled into our tented camp, tired but satisfied. Some tea while we relaxed, dinner before a roaring bonfire and then early to bed.

Looks so nice! Hard to reconcile that it could be very dangerous out there.

It looks idyllic! One couple that I knew who lived in Kenya met while working in the Nairobi slums. They probably do have a few pics of the country but photography wasn't a priority for them. They are now trustees of the Pilkington trust and keep an eye on a silkscreen printing factory they set up to enable girls to get out of prostitution. He was my solicitor till he retired.

Very beautiful. I love the way the river winds itself through the grassy plains. It seems so tranquil and safe as long as you don't put your toe in the water. Wonderful shot.

I am so glad to see you back on RR, Mark. This is a token comment, as I am not be here regularly yet. I wanted to add my voice to those raised in cheer at your return and at your safe journey through your medical trials and tribulations. Though I am not commenting regularly, I am reading your travels with great interest and enjoyment. Beautiful capture. It is poetry of light, colors, and shapes. It has beauty that calms the soul, even knowing that danger lurks in the shadows.

Wow it looks beautiful, and what an adventure you had. One day I hope to get there as well.
