Description
Gazelles are one of the very few animals that can evade the cheetah. They are sleek, fast and rather attractive. There are two major types found in Kenya, Grant's and Thomson's. Thomson's Gazelles have a sporty black racing strip along their sides. Grant's lack the black strip and females have horns. Even though the name Impala comes from the Zulu word for gazelle, they are so different from true gazelles that they have been classified as a separate subfamily.
Alpha male Impalas, like many animals, often travel with a harem of females. I counted fifteen in this picture. Fifteen may seem like a lot but, hey, look at the horns on that guy.

I love photographing Impala. In the Kruger National Park they are everywhere and people often look over them. However, they can be such posers and make a gorgeous image. I love this ram and his harem!

They have lovely doe eyes. How wonderful to see them in the wild. Beautiful shots. He does seem rather proud of his horns.
