Dad(a.k.a. danapommet), asked me how long it would be before images of the cinder cone on "Wizards Island" make it into the gallery. Since having several series running and more from the Island trip before getting to the cone, it would be awhile. However it is Dad's Birthday and so a stitch of the crater makes the gallery today. Took these as the kids finished their lunch a few feet away under some shade. There were still patches of snow in the cinder cone. Upon returning to the boat, the Ranger had told us there was still enough snow to sled on just two weeks earlier in the cone . You may recall, just five weeks previous there was so much snow we could not even access two thirds of the park! The joke amongst the Rangers is that Crater Lake has three seasons, Winter, Spring, and August! :~) Variations of "Indian paintbrush" carpet the ground where the snow once was, adding splashes of color against the darker cinder and blue's of sky and water. The stark contrasts of living pines and there predecessors dot the inner cone and rim. It being a 5 image stitch, to see any detail a zoom is best. Hope the sneak peak ahead in the "Wizard Island" series was enjoyable, Happy Birthday Dad!
