Anima Mundi. It's a very difficult concept. Many people know the Gaia Hypothesis - but for those who do not know, I briefly summarize from Wikipedia:
The Gaia hypothesis, also known as Gaia theory or Gaia principle, proposes that all organisms and their inorganic surroundings on Earth are closely integrated to form a single and self-regulating complex system, maintaining the conditions for life on the planet.
This is a modern theory, also considered by some a little risky. In many ancient peoples and civilizations, another idea was considered: the Anima Mundi. Again a litte resume from Wikipedia:
The world soul (in Latin Anima mundi) is, according to several systems of thought, an intrinsic connection between all living things on the planet, which relates to our world in much the same way as the soul is connected to the human body. The idea originated with Plato and was an important component of most Neoplatonic systems.
It is immediately obvious the similarity between the two concepts.
Although the definition is the original Greek civilization, its actual origins are older than history. Although with minor variations, this idea has been present throughout history, civilizations and people, at least until the expansion of the monotheistic religions. These, however, did not deny the idea itself, rather it has been subject to the divinity.
Even today many important religious and theologians, as well as scientists, rediscover and reaffirm this idea in its entirety.
Thousands of years to become aware of something that the ancient peoples knew already. But despite this, we all see what we are doing wrong and evil to the Earth, to people, to life ... to the soul of the world.
Some even consider the human race as a disease of the world and fear the consequences of this. Maybe it's an extreme idea, maybe not.
If there is a soul in the world, it certainly suffer. It took a lot of patience. But I think the man has always been too evil to deserve the patience in the world. Today, our ever-present cruelty, though masked by the complexity of a modern civilization, we add the abuse of every available resource. And we are all guilty, all of us. So, how much patience will yet the world?
Today, we all know, is a difficult time. But still there are people, many people, who continue to abuse everything and everyone. How long can we tolerate? How much more our world, our home, can tolerate?
I'm not interested in stories and theories about the End of the World, 2012, and other such things. The world is alive, it grows, it changes, it has its good times and difficult ones. But we have gone beyond the laws of nature. Any time, we can pass the no return point. We can disappear in a short time, the world will go on, though. It has a future, we may not.
In my picture there are men who prays, they ask for forgiveness and help, but really we believe that this is enough?
Each of us, honestly, knows or should know the answer.
Maybe it's time to follow the heart, to use the reason, not the cruelty and abuse. It is time to think about, it is time to build our future not to destroy it.

Can't help feeling that we lost a lot when the akkadian and Sumerian civilations were lost. Sorry for the delay in replying, kept posting essays rather than comments during previous attempts at postings :)

I have to ask a co-worker to translate the latin frases for me. Your work of art is very personal and has your own style which is unique.I will thank you very much for your friendly comments on my work,love.. and Grs.Rudy.

I enjoy your embodiment of principle. Whether to name a style, such as impressionist or surreal, is immaterial to me. That this evokes both thought and emotion matters. And I speak to the body of art in your gallery. Not simply one image. Bravo! For painting what you See!

Beautiful work, but I believe in the idea that if there is evil in the world, there is also good, a balance. A Yin and Yang of existence is the best way to explain it. I really like this image, and appreciate your explanation of it. Great idea.

Beautiful image and interesting words. I have felt connections with the earth. Felt her energy flow and mingle with mine. I do not know if this feeling was all in my head, but it's nice to think that it wasn't. Though I support green initiatives with my vote, I am, through inaction and laziness, as guilty as most in over using resources. Regardless of whether the Earth has a soul or not, our survival is intrinsically dependent on the planet at least for now. As you say, the Earth is not dependent on us. We have gotten strong enough to effect the Earth and if we aren't careful, we will set in motion changes that we may not be able to reverse. Very emotive image.

Hey Whylma, à quand la prochaine minute visuelle de symbolisme (et les heures de méditations qui s'ensuivent :-D) ? Voilà qui nous manque...A bientôt ! ;-)
