Description

From Wikipedia: "Mont Saint-Michel is a rocky tidal island and a commune in Normandy, France. It is located approximately one kilometre (just over half a mile) off the country's north-western coast, at the mouth of the Couesnon River near Avranches. The population of the island is 41, as of 2006. The island has been a strategic point holding fortifications since ancient times, and since the 8th century AD it became the seat of the Saint-Michel monastery, from which it draws the name. The Mont-Saint-Michel and its bay are part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. More than 3,000,000 people visit it each year." Mont Saint-Michel is also famous for it's tides. There is a causeway leading to the island where it is safe to park, but there are other parking lots where you need to be very careful to pay attention to the tides - because at high tide, your car, if left in those lots, would be entirely covered by water! My grandson is visiting now & we will be doing some traveling, so I probably won't be able to post or do much gallery browsing for a week or so... Please zoom

a lovely picture of one of my favourite places. When the tide is out there are some remarkable patterns in the sand when viewed from above, so photogenic.
