Description

I mentioned that I tried out some new light setups in this shoot and this was one of the first "brand new" setups for me in quite some time. I have been getting a little TOO comfortable with the ring light, I fear! It deviates from my usual three point lighting so it's a bit out of my comfort zone and style, but I love how it turned out and I can see myself using it again, for sure! As main light I had a Yongnuo YN560 Speedlite flash in a 60cm square softbox to his right on a boom stand, quite close to him at a downward angle. As second light I had a Canon Speedlite 580EX II flash in a 2 meter high strip box with a grid on, behind him and pointing inwards at him. Model: Ren Cronje Agency: Boss Models Location: Studio, Johannesburg, South Africa More info about the shoot here Thanks in advance for all comments, favourites and watches. Even if I don't reply and say thanks to all of them, I really appreciate all the feedback you guys give me. All images are copyright (c) Johann Marx. The best thing about comfort zones is leaving them! I try to make a habit of that and in doing so I have learned one thing: Life itself is on HUGE comfort zone, but it's different comforts in different zones, and so the whole point is to just move from zone to zone and see what each offers. I also think things are more fun that way because of the new stuff you get to discover. And look at the result! This is really fantastic. I love the way you photograph people in a way that glamorizes them to a degree (but then, there IS that whole glamour photography genre) but then you go one step farther and actually show how gorgeous people are, so it's almost like you go so far into glamour that you actually go straight past it and back into human honesty. Does that make sense? Anyway, you've done it here. I really like this!
