Description

Out here in Nakuru Town People stop just to look around But they don't buy much, they're safari bound Far away from Nakuru Town Wood carvings I have got Rhino, lion and elephant Chase Mzungu, think they're rich Then find out all of their money is spent Safari bus passing through Lots of tourists with much to do I call Jambo, Jambo come look in my shop But the safari bus doesn't even stop Work all day, come home late The baby's crying, the wife's irate Little food sitting on my plate A poor man curses his sorry fate Next day sun shines and I hear Sounds of laughter and good cheer Not so bad this life of mine Friends around and I'm feeling fine And I am out here in Nakuru Town People stop just to look around But they don't buy much, they're safari bound Far away from Nakuru Town So what did I do on those long, bumpy rides from one park to another. I wrote in my journal and composed doggerel songs like this. We took one of those bumpy roads out of the park. After three hours we rolled into Nakuru, a nondescript town southwest of Samburu. The place was chock-a-block with vendors selling wood carvings from blankets spread out on the sidewalk. While Sam arranged for supplies, we were left on our own in a restaurant/bar where we met an older Englishman dressed in safari tack muttering over his whiskey about how much better it was when England ruled Kenya. We drove a short way out of town and up into a hilly area. Stopping on a ridge, we dropped our luggage at our tented camp and walked over to the edge of the ridge, and our first look at Lake Nakuru.

But you bought some stuff on your travels. Love the doggerel..I come from a family of jitters of that sort of stuff. That looks like flamingos in this pic.

Cool .... this genre of poetry I have not seen in a long time. Yes.... my paradise need not be made of gold. It is enough if I work, eat, not have to sleep on the street. And if I have friends at my side.
