Description
Flamingos are not the only birds found at Lake Nakuru. Cormorants, Egyptian Geese, Pelicans, Ibis and Herons all use the lake as a stopover on their migrations. And then there is the Old Man Of The Lake, my favorite, the Marabou Stork. The Marabou, with its white breast, black wings and its practice of taking careful, deliberate steps, looks like a grumpy old man in overcoat with his arms behind his back. The Marabou has the largest wingspan of any living bird, with measurements up to 4 meters (13 feet) reported.

I can almost hear his thoughts as he's walking along...'Silly flamingos! prancing about in the water like nobody's business! Hmmmph!' Great captures Mark

Great pics! They bring to my memory a Kippling's tale, "The Undertakers"

He has hard to carry to his knowledge, it seems. The marabou of wisdom....cool title!

I have often thought they look like the Duke of Edinburgh, although he probably has a better sense of humour than the stork.

Or - even better, he looks like an old teacher - pacing the classroom up and down, up and down ... fine capture mark, BB

And I thought "The undertaker bird" was third on the list of largest wingspans after the Great white pelican and the Andean Condor. Great pair of shots! Can picture him lumbering along.
