Description

it's hard to believe that yesterday, Richard (Richardphotos) posted and image entitled Oklahoma Sundog. Today, on my way home from visiting my sister, I saw this in the sky. I took several photos of it and now I'm sharing it with you thank you Richard for the explanation and the name

Great looking capture Mike. Sundogs are something quite common up here but mostly just in the winter. When you see a halo around the sun, it is a sign that the weather in the next day or 2 will be deep in the -40 range. As beautiful as they are most people hate to see them because of what they are foretelling.

thanks Mike. yours was very distinctive. once in a great while I will see on both sides of the sun and on one trip in Oklahoma, I seen a late sunrise with a sun dog.when I finally stopped to get a picture it disappeared. I was on a turnpike and afraid to stop and take a chance on a ticket or worse a rear-ended affair

You are indeed very lucky, to have spotted this one - maybe I should find mine and make it a triplicate? I think they are always so very special! ... and nicely presented here, Mike BB

Sundogs are such fun. I love atmospheric phenomena like this...and atmospheric and quasi-atmospheric things have some of the coolest names. I'm quite happy to live in a world with "sundogs" and "dust devils." There's a kind of fun, quirky poetry to such names, and it keeps life colorful and...in many ways...human. This is fantastic.
