Description

We took my grandson Eligh on his first cable car ride last week. There was about an hour wait at the Fisherman's Wharf turnaround, so we got to watch them perform this maneuver several times, as well as enjoying the street performers who entertained us. When it came time to board, Eligh insisted on riding standing up, of course, which freaked his grandmother out a little bit, so she had as tight a grip on him as he had on the pole. But we all had a fine time riding up & down the steep hills - though it was late in the day & it got pretty foggy & chilly. After getting off in Chinatown & walking around a little, we returned to Fisherman's Wharf & had a nice hearty dinner at Cioppino's to warm ourselves up... Please zoom

I love this. I did not know they turned the cars around like this. They must make good money on those cable cars to keep them around this long.

A brilliant pic and I would love to ride on it but it leaves me rather puzzled - how can that small turntable turn that long carriage around???

To explain, he is not turning it at the moment, he's pulling it further onto the turntable so he can turn it once all the wheel sets are on the turntable. Nice shot! I have ridden on this one many years ago!

Seattle Monorail ... controls at either end. Washington State Ferries ... controls at either end. Apparently nothing up here turns around! LOL! This never crossed my mind. Fascinating to see! Thanks!

A great photo and I think that the cable cars are the only moving National Park in the US!
