Description

Eupeodes luniger on Ageratum. This hoverfly is a migratory species whose numbers are boosted by visitors from Southern Europe every summer. I grew these pretty plants from seed this spring for the first time for about 40 years, and they are a great success. Blue is a colour that is in short supply in late summer, and they are also popular with the insects. I'm not sure why, as I can't see much pollen, but then my sight is much worse than the flies.
