Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere.Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

A nifty drawing, these never fail to amuse me, not that I am laughing at your skill in this area, just that they are always amusing to me :}

Good work on these amusing characatures.

Always great to see more of your unique drawings. Perhaps he just likes alpha women.

Great work on this one Hugs Susan~

Wonderful piece Andrea! The included adam's apple gives her a determined and forceful look. Maybe it is the alpha woman as wysiwig said. The extra lips and eye are a bit trippy or is it her thoughts?

Lots of work went into this amusing characterization, A. Remnds me of the opulent, wealthy ladyfolk on the Titanic back in 1912,

Amazing how you created this, Andrea! As I translate the title it said there is a widow and admirer. I would love the idea that every widow will become an admirer on her side, then she will not miss her partner so much. I looked at your gallery, what a lot of beauties you've made. I try to catch up to give comments later, dear friend.

Andrea, I can only do two pieces now, but I hope to be back a lot sooner to do more. But I end with this gem because it's another of your seemingly simple but very complex drawings. Your line is, as ever, incisive, humorous, peering and insightful. Your delineation of facial lines (the nose, eyes, cheeks, etc) shows insight into human expression as well as the actual face. Your colors, often separated by 'areas', reminds me of Matisse and others who broke the face into different distinct hues, achieving great insight into human nature. And there are the straight hatches on the dowager's lips, adding a kind of drawing wink to your work, acknowledging a basic technique with (to me) a tad of humor. (You use hatching so well around their faces, too.) The admirer is wide-eyed, hesitant, and in shadow, showing the character-insight so often seen in your drawings and sculpture. And this has your usual inexplicable creatures and half creatures hanging-out around your subjects---eg, those frog like things with an eye and some faces, on the dowager's left (our right). They might be explained as this or that, but after seeing so much of them in your drawings, I can only assume that they come fresh from your inner eye. (In this case, almost a collection of smiling clams.) Fun, funny, insightful, sculptural, and wonderfully wry and human at the same time; with your mix of fine drawing and caricature all in one. Terrific work, Andrea. I'll be back for more next time, my promise.

How did I miss this? WHY did I miss this? Anyway, I see it now, and I love it. I hope to publish a book soon, and I'd love to pull a J.K. Rowling trick and actually get creative control over the cover art. If so, I'd LOVE a cover like this! It's amazingly perfect and an eye-grabber! The first thing I noticed was the blue eye shadow! Perfect! Inspired. And the measure of complexity in this is amazing. There's so much to see! So much to enjoy, so much to inspire nice, rich, lengthy giggles. This is wonderful! One of my favorites, and all of your doodles are super! There's artistic mastery in here: the shading, the color choices, the variations in line and all of that art-stuff, and yet, it's such fun! on top of all of that. I like this. A LOT. Oh, and the dowager herself is superb, and the admirer is just as much of an eye-catcher!
