Description
This is a picture of my friend Ken (St John's Ambulance)on the left of the pic and myself on the right nearest the open door. This was taken at a social function circa 1990 and scanned. I retired from the Fire Service in 1996 after 30 years service, the last 16 of which being in charge.
Note the style of helmet for the time!!

Looks like a pith helmet :) Well done to serve in the Fire Service and do that job for 30 years! Not an easy job. Great pic, Jeff!

Wow, thirty years of service and 16 in charge! Very commendable service! Nice pic too, and not every day was a picnic!

A very commendable service, Jeff! I like the angle that the photograph was taken from - shows more of the truck. Clive

I remember those helmets, was it yellow for fireman and white for officers. I worked for Dennis trucks for a while and we used to supply a number of Fire Engines to various services, rusty doors were a problem in those days. I agree a very commendable service Jeff.

Great capture Jeff. I don't think I ever saw those type of helmets in the states.

Respect to you, Jeff.. I remember those helmets and while I expect the 'newer' design is better, I prefer the old style lol AND the older engines! Great shot! Rob

If I'm not remembering incorrectly, that's the kind of helmet that was worn by Sean Connery when he was the fireman coming to the rescue at the end of the film "Time Bandits"; wonderful shot!
