Description
Taken at the Oakland Zoo. We all had a great time watching this meerkat doing sentry duty for his clan. He stood erect in one place, looking out & twisting his head in one direction after another.
To MrsRatbag, who asked about the "ski lift" at the zoo, yes, it's still there, but we didn't ride it on this visit...

This looks like a little old man of the species, on duty because somebody has to keep watch for those dumb kids...or something like that. These are such adorable creatures and this is a perfect shot and treatment. I love the texture you've added: that vague stippling looks incredible.

He looks quite a well-fed fellow; isn't it funny that they still do this sentry behaviour even in zoos, where theoretically there aren't any predators? Wonderful capture!
