Description
Elephants are a matriarchal species. Elephant herds consist of females and their children. When a male elephant reaches maturity he leaves the herd and spends most of his time alone except for mating season.
Elephants also have notoriously poor eyesight so when this big fellow saw a large object moving across the plain he may have thought it was another bull elephant and charged forward to challenge him. At the last minute he saw we had no trunk and probably realized his mistake. As he turned away, that body part that identifies him as a male was fully, though briefly, exposed. It looked to be between two and three feet in length. My tent mate John saw what I saw and laughed. "I don't know why we bother, Mark," he said as he shook his head.

GREAT SEQUENCE AND STORY

Your story is almost as great as your candid shots. I have a big affection for African Elephants and a larger respect for them. Indian Elephants aren't too shabby either with their desire to please us and work with us.
