Description
We had spent the day in the outer park because the bridge into the main part of Masai Mara had been damaged by flood waters and the river, we were told, was still to deep to cross. On the way back to camp we got stuck in the mud. Sam had us get out and push. I suspected that this might be part of the "safari" experience. My suspicions were confirmed when, the next day, we were stuck again but Sam used the sand tracks carried on the roof of the truck to get us out. Sand tracks are metal railings that, when wedged under tires, provide enough traction to enable a vehicle to rescue itself.
The next morning we were back at the Mara river to try a crossing. While we scrambled across the damaged bridge Sam tested the waters and then, slowly, he showed us how the Ark got its name.
